The parish of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini recognizes the sorrowful and painful tragedy that has been the abuse of minors and vulnerable adults on the part of clerics and laypersons within the church. There are no number of apologies nor any eloquent statements that could ever undo the damage done by members of the church, which is the body of Christ.
While the Diocese of Rochester strives to do what it can with regards to compensating those who lost so much by being victimized, our efforts are to focus on the safeguards that we can put into place so as to do all that we can to avoid any missteps in the future by volunteers, staff and clergy.
The parish committed to following all of the safeguards outlined by the Diocese of Rochester in regards to Creating a Safe Environment (CASE). The diocese has in place various policies which include a Code of Conduct and policies for ministering online with young people.
There are policies and procedures in place for volunteers as well, and these include background checks and checks with the department of motor vehicles for those who drive to events.
There are also resources available at the bottom of the diocesan page for parents, including how to talk to your child about sexual abuse.
Let us all pray for the victims of abuse, whether in the church, in households or in any other place in society. May the hearts of all people turn away from sin and all destructive forces and may the hand of God bring healing to hearts and souls that have been so gravely wounded, especially by persons who represent Christ.
“Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, have mercy on us poor sinners.”
