Statement from the Diocese of Rochester

Bishop Matano personally responded to all letters written to him, several of which were from non-parishioners. He requested basic information regarding proposals and their ability to sustain Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish while continuing to meet the needs of the entire community. He did not receive any responses [until this past week].

No decision regarding Saint Michael Church has been made at this time. Upon the recommendation of the Presbyteral Council at its meeting on February 9, 2021, further study and consultation will be made over the next several weeks by the diocesan Office of Pastoral Planning in conjunction with leadership at Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, of which the church is a part. Further communication will be forthcoming as it is known.

It must be remembered that the communities that make up Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish are Saint Michael’s, Church of the Annunciation and Our Lady of the Americas. Any proposal, therefore, must take into consideration the needs of all. Thus, it is the sincere hope of all concerned that whatever decision is made it will be in the best interest of the parish as it strives for vibrancy and to serve the ministerial needs of the People of God in its city neighborhoods.

"There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit;
there are different forms of service but the same Lord;
there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.
To each individual the manifestation of the Spirit is given for some benefit."

This site is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  Mother Cabrini founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1880 along with seven other sisters.  Read more about her story here.  We also wish to honor the request of Our Lady of Fatima who spoke to the 3 shepherd children in 1917 saying that it was the desire of her Son, Jesus, to establish devotion to Mary’s Immaculate Heart.  We honor the Hearts of Jesus and Mary as a sign of devotion and dedication to the love that God has shown through them.
